Cronin has a good understanding of the sales process and prides himself as a good listener when he’s interacting with clients. “Some sales people just talk too much”, says Cronin, “it’s only when you’re listening to the client that you learn about them and what they might need from you.”
Cronin sees the potential for TEGG Services in the North Bay. “It’s a wide open market because there doesn’t seem to be much competition when you consider the high quality of services that TEGG offers. Also a lot of people that need our services aren’t aware of us yet and it’s our job to raise that awareness”, says Cronin. |

Cronin is a fourth generation San Francisco native who has worked in the Bay Area as a manager for a uniform and linen rental company overseeing the route and sales force for five years. He also worked in sales for a janitorial supply company and he managed golf courses for a few years. |
|
|
“I’ve dealt with all kinds of clients – from the general manager at the Fairmont Hotel to a small gas station owner”, says Cronin, “I think that’s one of my strengths – being able to communicate with people from various backgrounds. Everyone from the largest wineries to an offset printing company could use TEGG Services.”

A "Greener" Solution for Beringer Vineyards' Barrel Room Lighting
 |
|
Beringer Vineyards has invested in new energy efficient fluorescent lighting for a barrel room that will save money and energy while increasing its efficiency and longevity.
Knights’ Electric, Inc.’s commercial department, headed by Art Knight, Vice President and Commercial Manager, replaced one hundred and thirty 400-watt high pressure sodium light fixtures with new four-lamp, T8, fluorescent high bay lighting fixtures with motion sensors. The motion sensor that’s mounted on each fixture can be adjusted for both sensitivity and time from 0 to 30 minutes. |

| “PG&E offers a $100.00 rebate for each light fixture and $20.00 for each motion sensor”, says Art Knight, “The buy back is less than two years for these new lights. These lights are also instant on and instant off eliminating the warm up time the old lights had. The energy savings is substantial at one third the wattage of the old lighting with the added savings of the automatic shut off. |
Another advantage of the fluorescent lights is the lack of light level loss. “The high pressure sodium fixtures we replaced continue to lose their light level output throughout the life of the lamp”, says Knight, “That’s not the case with the fluorescent tubes, which maintain their original light level output for the life of the tube.” The new fixtures use significantly less energy while putting out the same amount of foot candles. |

The entire lighting retrofit project was completed in eight working days with two electricians. Winery personnel moved the barrels to accommodate access to the ceiling lights while one electrician worked in the portable lift to hang the new fixtures and the other electrician worked below on the floor preparing the lighting fixtures for installation. |

Custom Homeowners Beware - Sometimes Better Choices Are Available

|
|
When custom homeowners choose their lighting systems and fixtures their personal preferences shape their decisions. Sometimes these choices are extremely personal, such as chandeliers from a previous home. Many times the choices are style driven, such as lighting fixtures from Europe, which are seen as one of the current “hot” trends. |
European lighting fixtures are popular, but
American versions are more compatible
for installation iinto American electrical boxes
|
| |
Be careful with the European lighting fixtures. “They are a big hit even though they are more expensive”, say Scott Cameron, Knights’ Electric, Inc.’s Residential Department Project Manager, “One problem with European lighting fixtures is that they don’t fit American electrical boxes. Another drawback is that they are not always U.L. listed, which means that technically they can be rejected by a building inspector.” One solution is to purchase American versions of these European lighting fixtures, which, in some cases, are available. |

Wireless light switches have their own power source
making them ideal when adding a switch location without
having to cut up walls when remodeling
|
| |
Another homeowner pitfall can occur during remodeling projects when the homeowner doesn’t fully understand the framing behind the walls and ceiling. Recessed lighting fixtures, another popular trend, require wiring. If the first floor of a two-story home is being considered for recessed lighting, the sheetrock will have be to cut or trenched to provide a path for wire since there is no crawl space above the ceiling. |
|
There is no alternative for that type of remodel lighting, but it’s something the homeowner doesn’t expect and the procedure is messy and an added expense. The homeowner can get some relief on the other end of the lighting scheme by using a wireless switch that generates its own power instead of cutting the wall to run wire for a switch to power existing lights. This wireless switch is used in Europe in new construction and is now available in the U.S.
Knights’ Electric’s residential department has the experience and innovative ideas that can help homeowners choose smarter and many times less expensive ways to reach their lighting system goals.
