Straus Family Creamery

Knights' Electric, Inc.'s TEGG Service technicians have just completed work at Straus Family Creamery in Marshall, testing the creamery plant's electrical system and electrical equipment. "We want to make sure our electrical system is running safely and efficiently," says Albert Straus, oldest son of Bill and Ellen Straus, who began their family farm in 1941.

Straus Family Creamery produces organic milk, butter, yogurt and ice cream, which is available in over 25 states and can be purchased locally at Whole Foods, Raley's and Trader Joe's. Their European-styled butter has been named "One of the top Premium Butters in America", by Food and Wine magazine.

Straus Family Creamery has extremely high standards regarding their healthy farm practices. Cows graze in the fields and they do not use any herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers. All products are produced in accordance with USDA Organic Regulations and third-party certified by Quality Assurance International (QAI).

These standards also carry over to their environmentally-safe plant. They work with the goals of conserving water, recycling wherever possible and strictly avoiding environmentally-detrimental chemicals.

As for Knights' Electric's TEGG Service inspection and evaluation of the electrical system, Lynda Morgan, Facilities Manager at Straus Family Creamery, says "We're always striving to keep in compliance and maintain safety standards."

Knights' Electric's TEGG Service will now evaluate their test findings at the plant and make recommendations to Straus Family Creamery regarding upgrades and repairs to assure plant safety and avoid power loss within the electrical system including their electrical equipment.

Walden Studios in Geyserville has a HomeWorks lighting system that can be programmed and controlled from a remote location. This Ethernet connection requires a HomeWorks processor, which plugs into a computer or wireless router to control all phases of the lighting system. Knights' Electric installed the HomeWorks system at Walden Studios along with the entire electrical system.

The HomeWorks lighting system includes programming for timers, light levels and desired combinations of lighting schemes that can turn on lights, dim lighting over a given time span or light various sections of a building when desired. At Walden Studios the automated blinds are also controlled by the HomeWorks system.

The HomeWorks lighting system can be used in commercial or residential applications, however it is not designed to be programmed by the end-user. Once Knights' Electric installs the initial program making adjustments for the end-user is a relatively simple task.

Scott Cameron, Residential Project Manager for Knights' Electric, was involved in designing the HomeWorks system for Walden Studios. He can make changes in the programming for the Walden Studios lighting system from his office at Knights' Electric in Windsor. Aside from the HomeWorks processor, which plugs into the computer in the remote location, there is a minimal amount of specialized internet equipment that is required to complete the Ethernet connection.

At Walden Studios the landscape lighting, parking lot and driveway lighting along with the top floor of the building are all controlled by the HomeWorks lighting system. The ground floor retail area has its own lighting switches.

When you build your own custom home and hire a contractor to do the work you put a lot of faith into the contractor's judgment and vision. Of course the homeowner has a vision also. There is usually some give and take on how the home will look and feel when it's completed and that means a few or a lot of changes. For John Crawford it's simple, he and his wife are making the decisions and John is building their home.

The first thing you will notice when you enter the home are the twelve foot ceilings as well as ceiling fans in virtually every room including the outdoor veranda in the rear of the home. There are also over 100 recessed Halo lighting fixtures throughout the home. All of the fixtures and the entire electrical system were installed by Knights' Electric, Inc.

John Crawford Construction has worked with Knights' Electric for many years, mostly on commercial projects including winery projects such as Rodney Strong , Silver Oak Cellars and Montemaggiore. Crawford specializes in design/build projects with a keen insight for saving his customers money in the construction process.

Crawford has been impressed with Knights' Electric's journeyman Thomas Lamburth, who installed the structured media panel for television, phone, satellite and networking. Every outlet throughout the home has four cables for these functions, which makes the home very flexible for changing configurations.

One other special feature in the home is a switch in the master bedroom that throws on all of the exterior lights as a security measure. It's one of the things that you can do when you build your own home and have Knights' Electric to install it for you.
