Knights' Electric's TEGG Services recently completed work at Murphy-Goode Estate Winery. The winery, which is owned and leased by Murphy Vineyards, was tested by Knights' Electric TEGG
technicians, who used infrared and ultrasound testing equipment to check the entire electrical system and the electrical machinery at the winery. |

Knights' Electric TEGG
technicians found that the winery's transformers needed cleaning, some power receptacles needed repair and perhaps most important it was discovered that five circuit breakers were overheating and needed to be replaced. The motor control centers were also checked as well as the lighting system and many of the lighting fixtures were replaced throughout the winery.
|
|
All of the proposed repairs were included in a report that was presented to Jim Murphy of Murphy Vineyards.
After the proposal was approved the repairs were made and retested including the replaced circuit breakers that were deemed a potentially dangerous and costly hazard before their
replacement. For Jim Murphy, who initially met with Knights' Electric's senior Sales Representative Mike Saitone, the TEGG
process seemed like a good idea. "I wanted to make sure the electrical components in the winery were working safely and efficiently. Mike Saitone
explained the process to me very clearly and the technicians, who performed the work, Steve (Sperbeck) and Aage (Krepper), were wonderful. I think TEGG
is less expensive than having someone check the electrical system manually," said Murphy.Jim Murphy went on to say he thought TEGG was a good idea for others, "I would recommend TEGG
to anyone who has a facility with a lot of electrical power like we do." |

Because Knights' Electric is so well known for winery construction you occasionally hear a company phrase that
goes something like this, "we do a lot more than just wineries". That list would include custom home construction and remodeling, industrial projects,
municipal projects and commercial projects
like the College Ave. Office Building at W. College and Dutton in Santa Rosa. |
|
This newly completed 19,274 square foot two-story commercial office building has a unique and modern
architectural style with a complementary interior and exterior lighting design. Knights' Electric completed the electrical installation for the shell of the building, which included
the main electrical service panel, interior lighting and power to all of the common areas in the building, the building exterior and the parking lot lighting. |

Knights' Electric installed the PG&E, AT&T and SBC underground substructures into the building. Knights'
also installed power distribution sub panels and phone boards for each tenant space along with the fire alarm system for the building. |
|
The lighting design in the entryway consists of Italian style sconces, recessed lighting and overhead quartz
lighting. Knights' Electric also supplied the power for the elevator. The exterior lighting on the building has recessed lighting under the roof overhang and diamond shaped sconces
that shine down the walls to give it an elegant look at night. |

Out of sight but not out of mind are 15 air conditioning units on the roof, which Knights' Electric supplied
with power. "Overall this was a fairly straight forward project," says Richard Freitas, Knights' Electric Commercial Project Manager for this
job. But it's also important to note that Knights' Electric is well versed in all commercial aspects of construction and lighting design and have the manpower to take on large
projects and stay on schedule. They do much more than just wineries. |

RESIDENTIAL Custom Home's Retrofitted Lighting Design

Custom home building is never a straight-forward proposition. The nuances and uniqueness of it demand that the
builders be flexible, innovative and always open to changes. Remodeling and retrofitting are even more complicated than usual when dealing with a one-of-a-kind custom home. |
|
Knights' Electric recently took on retrofit lighting design project in a Japanese pole house. A few years ago
Knights' Electric was involved in new construction of a Japanese pole house, but retrofitting is a whole other ball game. "This kind of project is very labor intensive," says Scott Cameron, Knights' Electric's Residential Project Manager, "we
needed to hide the overhead wiring for some of the lights so we used copper plumbing pipe as a decorative feature with the Romex wiring inside the piping." |

Tim Burke, a lighting designer from Los Angeles created a "crown of lights" in the living area that is situated
at a height of 20 feet. The cupola at the peak of the ceiling is 30 feet.Another challenge on this project involved a 600-year old door from a Japanese temple, which is
used as a headboard for the bed in the master bedroom. A mono point reading light, which was an MR-16 halogen light, had to be installed by drilling a hole in the head board. "I think
I measured that hole about ten times before drilling it," says Cameron, who did the honors. It came out perfect. |
|
Another trick was lighting an alcove in a bathroom. Creativity took over when Knights' Electric used sign lights
to backlight an etched glass partition. The effect came out exactly how the owners had envisioned it.Perhaps one of the easier tasks was installing lights in the wine
cellar, but when it comes to custom home retrofitted lighting designs it's never really easy. |
