Walden Studios, located in Geyserville, is nearing completion. Built by Oliver & Company, the structure was formerly a fruit processing building that was completely gutted except for the foundation, two end walls and one side
wall. Now it features huge frameless glass windows that face an adjacent vineyard and concrete walls with artful angles. |
|
Knights' Electric, Inc. is once again working with Oliver & Company on this project and also on the Shomrei
Torah temple in Santa Rosa and the new fire station in Bolinas, both Oliver & Company projects. Knights' Electric has also done extensive work at Oliver Ranch. |

Jensen & Macy
of San Francisco are the architectural firm that designed what they describe as a mixed use project of art-related offices and retail lease spaces. The structure includes three art lofts with livable spaces in each section complete with kitchens, laundry hook-ups and full bathrooms.

Because the building was constructed on an existing foundation there is a raised metal computer
floor that creates a sub floor area to house electrical, HVAC, plumbing and fire sprinkler lines. The concrete walls and ceilings have a glossy finish created by using waxed plywood
forms when they were poured.

|
The large glass windows have a light green tint to deflect ultraviolet sun rays and a meeting room and the
loft area feature Lutron automated window shades, which are also manufactured by Lutron.

Knights' Electric installed landscape lighting, wall lighting and driveway lighting, which is fastened to the grape stakes along the entry road. |

Even before the building is a home to artists and artwork Walden Studios is an art exhibit in itself.

Whether it's a commercial or industrial project Rob Knight, Vice President at Knights' Electric, Inc., is supporting company personnel on the job and making sure that things are running smoothly.
"I'm there for our guys and to make sure we're on schedule with the general contractor or owner of the project," says Knight. |
|
"I try to save Tuesday and Thursday to drive out to our jobs," says Knight, "I like to check with our foreman
and our crews to see if things are going well. If there are any problems we can put our heads together and come up with a solution. It makes things easier to approach that way." |

Rob Knight is also in charge of scheduling commercial and industrial projects for Knights' Electric. "Once we
get the job I'll get a schedule from the job superintendent and I'll evaluate the time and people I need to complete it. It's important to get the right people for the right job on
each phase of the project." "We have people who are really good at underground work and that's important because once the slab is poured – that's it – it has to be done right,"
says Knight, "and we have motor control specialists
like Mike Rose, Scott Webb and Ed Herden who have a lot of experience in that area." Knight is very familiar with the strengths of each electrician having worked with many of them for a number of years and spending time on the job with all of them.
Knight finds that one of his biggest challenges in scheduling is taking care of the small jobs as well as the bigger projects, "We have to make sure we get to the small jobs in
between the big ones to make sure we keep all of our customers happy." |
