Night Games Scheduled For Horses

With a flick of a switch one of California's largest horse arenas will become a nighttime attraction featuring the equine stars that inhabit this luxurious ranch in the Napa Valley. Knights' Electric is completing the lighting installation for the 160-foot by 250-foot oval horse arena built by W. Scott Miller Construction. There are ten 30-foot light poles, each with two 1,000-watt metal high bay lights mounted on them surrounding the arena.

The nearby 18,500 square foot horse barn, two round pens, 60 and 90 feet in diameter, and 11 run-in shelters for the horses are nearing completion. The 90-foot pen is covered with a roof. With another flick of the switch the entire complex is lit for emergency and security, a feature Dan Beltran, Knights' foreman likes for its simplicity. Each of the 4 banks of lights in the horse barn has a switch at a central location plus the red switch for emergency.

Beltran has worked with Scott Miller of W. Scott Miller Construction on other projects and he had this to say about the experience, "Scott is the easiest person I've ever worked with, when you need something from him - he's right on it." This is a design/build electrical plan for Knights' Electric and one of the tasks involved drilling holes inside the diagonal beam braces on the horse barn to conceal wires leading to the indoor/outdoor wall sconces that light the perimeter of the structure. "We had one shot to make each hole and we got them all," said Beltran.

Knights? Electric drilled holes through the centers of the diagonal braces to run ?hidden? wire to the sconces.

Landscape lighting featuring up lighting into the surrounding trees at the horse ranch is presently being installed. The project is scheduled to be completed soon and we will return for a nighttime photo shoot and share that in a future newsletter.

RESIDENTIAL
Trilogy, Part 3 ? The Finishing Touches

A masterfully conceived 7,000 square foot home, with an interior built of exotic wood, marble, inlayed tile and expansive windows, requires an ambient lighting design to highlight its luxurious features. Knights' Electric installed over 160 recessed lighting fixtures throughout this home along with pendants, sconces, cove lighting, chandeliers and outdoor landscape lighting.

Jim Murphy & Associates was the general contractor and Cathy Iannotta was their project manager for this residence. The home was designed by Daniel Martinez of Laguna Beach, California. John Hallegren was the onsite superintendent for Jim Murphy & Associates and Knights' Electric's Dan Beltran worked closely with him.

Beltran was impressed, "Jim Murphy & Associates is an awesome company to work with. A job like this really tests your knowledge and they certainly have the knowledge. John Hallegren was super to work with.  When I needed information - he had it.  When I needed something he got it for me.  If he didn't have what I needed he was on his cell phone right away to get it. We just started another residential project with Jim Murphy (& Associates) and I'm looking forward to working with them again."

Knights' Electric installed a HomeWorks lighting and automation control system in this Shiloh Estates home that features timing schedules, dimmers and lighting combinations to produce the ambient lighting moods throughout the home at designated times. Beltran said that installing some of the heavier lighting fixtures was somewhat of an adventure, "We weren't able to use a motorized lift inside the home because of space and the finished floors. We muscled the fixtures up scaffolds with ropes to get them into place."

As the finished product shows, it was well worth the effort.
