New Emergency Generator for Sonoma County Morgue
|
The generator and diesel engine are housed in this green metal shroud with service doors.
The 3-phase conduit for power is to the left.
|
|
The Sonoma County Morgue now has a 200-killowatt emergency back-up generator. Knights' Electric
purchased and installed the generator along with an 800-amp automatic transfer switch at the facility located on Chanate Road in Santa Rosa. |
|
The emergency generator system will automatically engage when the main power is lost at the facility. Knights'
Electric completed the trenching, conduits, and piping along with the cement foundation to mount the generator and the diesel engine. The 120/208-volt, 3-phase generator is powered by a Cummins West 317-horse power turbo-charged diesel engine. The unit is located
outside the power house building at the morgue. The generator/engine shroud has sound reduction elements such as fiberglass paneling to comply with environmental sound level
guidelines. |

enunciator panel attached to its left side in the power house.
|
|
There is a 400-gallon sub-base diesel fuel tank situated below the generator and diesel set-up.
The Cummins West diesel engine can burn 4 to 14 gallons per hour depending on the power demand at the facility. The
automatic transfer switch (ATS) for the emergency generator is located inside the powerhouse. An enunciator panel, which is connected to the ATS, mimics the controls and alarms on the
generator and then sends a signal through a wireless link transmitter to the Sonoma County office complex located off Bicentennial Drive near Hwy. 101 in Santa Rosa. The entire power
system at the morgue can be monitored at the main offices to detect problems such as a leak or a low fuel level. |
