There are three levels of certification for TEGG technicians.  Technicians with a Level Two certification enables them to teach and train other TEGG technicians.  Level Three technicians can observe and grade other TEGG technicians and produce white paper reports explaining new and efficient procedures they have used in their testing.   Ben English & Joe Scassera

COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL
Manzana Products’ New Warehouse

Manzana Products Company
Manzana Products Company, Inc.'s offices located at 9141 Green Valley Road in Sebastopol

Manzana Products Company, Inc. is building a 43,000 square foot product warehouse at their facility located on Green Valley Road in Sebastopol.  Cary & Associates Builders, Inc. is the general contractor for the project.  Knights’ Electric, Inc.’s commercial department is providing a design/build plan for the electrical system and lighting.

The new warehouse is is 288 feet long...

...and 150 feet wide for a total of 43,000 sq. ft.

Manzana Products Company, Inc. is a manufacturer of food products that includes canned apple juice, applesauce, apple cider vinegar, sauces, spreads and condiments including pickles, relish and olives.  Manzana is the Spanish word for apple, the fruit that was once the king of agriculture in Sebastopol before wine grapes began to dominate the entire landscape of Sonoma County.  Manzana is one of the last apple processors in the area.

Knights’ Electric will be providing and installing a new 480-volt, 800-amp Cutler-Hammer electrical service panel for the warehouse.  Knights’ Electric has also been contracted to provide the PG&E utility facilities which include gas piping, utility transformer and cabling.

Knights’ Electric is installing energy efficient, high bay fluorescent lighting with motion sensors on the 30-foot ceiling of the warehouse.  They are also providing power distribution for roll-up doors and loading dock levers.

The project should be completed in the spring of 2009.  With the trend of wineries having replaced apple processing plants in the Sebastopol area Manzana Products Company is still thriving as a reminder to why they call the road a few blocks away the Gravenstein Highway.

RESIDENTIAL
Labor Budgeting Improves
Everyone’s Bottom Line

Jason Harden, Knights’ Electric, Inc.’s Residential Project Manager, is implementing a labor budgeting system that monitors work hours per week on residential projects.  Harden projects the number of labor hours required to complete the work scheduled for the upcoming week and he shares the information with his foreman and the general contractor.

Jason Harden

“If you run a project properly you should be on budget or below”, says Harden, “and if you can focus on the cost of labor for doing the project you can possibly do the job in less time which is good for the general contractor.”

Knights’ Electric’s residential department is currently using this labor budgeting system on a custom home being built by Kevin King Construction in Bennett Valley.  “We had a short first week of work with 32 hours of labor projected and we completed the work in 31 hours”, says Harden, “That gives us one hour in the bank, which we can use later if we need it.”

Harden, who has used this labor budgeting system previously, says the biggest asset is your foreman, “You have to involve them and empower them by appealing to their sense of pride in their work."

"The foreman has to feel accountable to be able reach the goal.  When the goal is reached they feel a true sense of accomplishment.”  Caesar Cardenas is the Knights’ Electric foreman on this project.  The Bennett Valley project is a 3800 square foot, two-story, wood framed home and Knights’ Electric is currently in the rough-in stage of construction.
