"It gives me piece of mind in knowing that our medium voltage equipment is up and ready for the task of loading
during crush and heavy use periods." Customer, Carl Bogner Beringer Wine Estates Maintenance Manager at Asti |
|
"I find it very rewarding to provide a service to our customers, which is unique to the industry. Helping our
customers in failure avoidance of large electrical components provides them with a huge level of confidence in operating their facility in a trouble free manner, as well as avoiding
large cost impacts to their annual budgets." Mike Saitone Knights' Electric's Senior Sales Representative for TEGG Services |

"Medium voltage (1,000 - 100,000 volts) equipment is constructed of fairly robust components out of necessity,
because of the potential of arcs able to jump four inches to a foot. These higher voltages also have the potential of catastrophic failure, which can cause expensive equipment damage

possibility of serious injury. It is very important that the medium voltage components be kept clean
to lower the possibility of arc tracking. Also the components should be checked for any flaws or damages to prevent a failure from occurring. The inspections
should be both visually and electrically tested to help insure the longevity and safety of equipment. There are several tools capable of testing the integrity of
the components as well as trending the performance over time. Keeping track of the equipment over time can reveal the possibility of
future problems early so they can be prepared for in advance. In medium voltage equipment this is very important since such components are not as
readily available as low voltage equipment. Also, the medium voltage equipment is normally first in line at a facility, the failure of these components will usually
shut down the entire facility." Scott Webb Knights' Electric Technician |

"Correct interpretation of maintenance data from transformers is vital for increased reliability, long life and
advanced information on possible need of replacement. Information accumulated through routine inspections and periodic tests on transformers in operation will usually provide you with
a warning of approaching service problems, then corrective measures can be taken. More importantly, if the available transformer maintenance records are effectively interpreted, it's
not unusual for an impending failure to be predicted. This, in turn, allows appropriate replacement measures, alleviating the impact of a sudden loss. Recognizing the warnings of
impending failure requires careful surveillance of the records to seek out significant trends or aberrant behavior. Persistence and a basic knowledge of a transformer's expected
operational characteristics will help you realize the full benefit of a maintenance program." * Charles T. Raymond P.E. Engineering Consultant*Quote taken from

COMMERCIAL Traditional Medicinals

|
|
Knights' Electric, Inc. has a long tradition of working with Traditional Medicinals, the herbal tea company located in
Sebastopol. Both companies were founded about thirty years ago, Traditional Medicinals in 1974 and Knights' Electric in 1976 and they have been working together since those early
days. |
|
Knights' Electric has been involved every phase of construction as the tea company has grown in size and sales
to become the largest medicinal herbal tea manufacturer in North America. Knights' Electric's latest project at Traditional Medicinals is a new warehouse area measuring 14,000 square
feet. Cary & Associates Builders, Inc. was the general contractor for this design/build project as well as the original building and other additions.

fixtures with motion sensors to save energy in the warehouse.
|
|
Knights' Electric installed T-5 HO (High Output) high bay lighting for the new warehouse with a total of 30
fixtures, 23 4-lamp fixtures and 7 6-lamp fixtures, all with 54-watt lamps. The lighting system has a motion sensor with a time setting of one to thirty minutes. A lower time setting
allows the lights to turn on and off automatically when a person has entered and left the area within a brief period. |

control in the warehouse.

|
"A lot of warehouses have lights that just stay on all the time whether or not someone is working in the area
and it just runs up the electric bill, says
Art Knight, Vice President at Knights' Electric, "This system with the motion sensor is cost effective because the
lights are just on when someone is actually working in the warehouse." Another feature of this lighting system is the quick illumination of the lamps for instant lighting as apposed
to a slow warm-up time and gradual lighting of older style systems. |
|
Knights' Electric also installed ceiling fans and an exhaust fan in the warehouse along with exterior lighting
for the metal building, which extends out from the previous warehouse space in the existing structure also built by Cary & Associates Builders, Inc. |

RESIDENTIAL Trainor Construction ? One Job At A Time
|
Tom Trainor of Trainor Construction |
|
Tom Trainor likes to build projects one at a time. "That way I can always be on the job site," says Trainor, who
has been in business for four years. Trainor has 20 years of commercial construction experience and also built homes in the Monterey Bay area before moving to the Napa Valley. Trainor
Construction is located in Calistoga. |
|
"At one point I thought I wanted to be a big contractor and now I'm a small contractor," says Trainor, "I'm
happy the way it's working out, I like to work on projects up to the three million dollar range. I have a backlog of projects that I'll be working on over the next three years."
Trainor Construction is focused on high-end custom homes, the same niche that Knights' Electric's residential department has built their reputation on. |
|
The custom home that is under construction was originally a California ranch home.
|
|
Trainor Construction is currently working on a custom home in Napa Valley with Knights' Electric. This is the
first time the two companies have worked together. "I saw them working on a custom home site and thought I'd contact them to bid this job. Matt Sweeney bid the job within $1000 of my number," says Trainor, who added with a laugh, "Great minds think alike, right?" |
|
The many doors that lead to a balcony also offer great panoramic views.
|
|
Matt Sweeney, Knights' Electric Project Manager, describes this custom home project as "a total remodel". "About
two-thirds of the framing of the house was left. We're doing recessed lighting in every room and we have a speaker system for music that has 16 speakers throughout the home with 9
volume controls," says Sweeney. "We're also doing some unique cove lighting with fluorescent lights in the kitchen and in-cabinet lighting in the dining room and kitchen." |
|
Trainor has been pleased with Knights' Electric's performance so far, "I was looking for a reliable company with
some horsepower. Knights' has been ahead of schedule and they're very knowledgeable and professional on the job." |
