Commercial Solar Continues![]() Frank Leon (left) and Ben Lanvin (right) mount PV panels at Coldwell Banker in Sebastopol. The business of Commercial Solar is booming and Knights’ Electric is happy to be a part of its success. Knights' was recently subcontracted to perform two complete commercial solar panel installations; one for a Coldwell Banker building in Sebastopol and the other for a Kelly Moore Paints location in Sonoma. The crews made good time; moving directly from one project to the next. The property owner of both buildings, Marco Vailetti, thought it was the perfect time to go solar for a number of reasons, “First, it is great to save the environment and reduce emissions. It will also save my tenants money, and I can help them out financially in lieu of reducing their rental fee during this economic depression. Lastly, the California State Solar Initiative rebate and the Federal rebate, with the accelerated depreciation schedule, made it all appealable to me as well.” Vailetti was also able to take advantage of Sonoma County’s Energy Independence Program (SCEIP) to help finance the installation. Performing “complete installation” means Knights’ took responsibility of everything from the racking, to mounting photovoltaic panels to installing the inverters and tying the system into the PG&E grid. As General Contractors of the project, Sequoia Solar did the set-up prior to installation and monitored progress. This was the first time that Knights’ and Sequoia Solar collaborated on a project, but the results were optimal. “I was very impressed with Knights’ Electric,” stated James Paterson, Project Manager with Sequoia Solar, “I would absolutely, 100 percent recommend Knights’ Electric to others.” A total of 324 Solar Panels were installed in the four and a half weeks it took to complete both projects, that’s approximately 3,900 square feet of photovoltaic panels. 24.6 KwDC were installed at Coldwell Banker and 43.6 KwDC at Kelly Moore Paints. Richard Freitas, Estimator & Project Manager of Knights’ Electric summed up the experience, “Both jobs went very smoothly and both were completed within the allotted schedule. Our lead electrician on the project, 'Memo' Gamez, did an excellent job from start to finish as did the rest of the crew. The job went just the way I prefer: on time, on budget, a clean installation without mishaps.” If these projects are any indication of what is to come, Knights’ future of installing commercial and residential solar arrays looks very bright! Sonoma County’s Energy Independence Program allows property owners to finance energy efficiency, water efficiency and renewable energy improvements through a voluntary assessment. Knights’ Welcomes A New Foreman![]() Troy Baldwin, recent hire of Knights' Electric, holds Macey, his youngest of three Grandchildren Troy Baldwin has been a foreman with Knights’ for only 6 months, but he is not new to the industry. He comes to Knights’ after 8 years with Summit Electric of Santa Rosa and a previous 14 years of experience with Wiggins Electric, also of Santa Rosa. Jason Harden, Residential Estimator & Project Manager for Knights’ Electric was impressed with Troy while working on a remodel and solar installation for a private residence in Tiburon, his first project as a member of the Knights’ team. “The level of detail and coordination that he has shown, not only with the General Contractor, but the home owner as well, has been a benchmark for the type of performance we hope to expect from our field personnel. His level of craftsmanship has been outstanding and this job has been flawless so far.” Troy has lived in Sonoma and Lake Counties since 1974. He is married to his High School sweetheart with whom he has four children and is now a grandparent to three grandchildren. |
